Itasca Runners Club

The Itasca Runners Club was formed in 2005, bringing together local runners with varying abilities and with a common interest in running.  The club has approximately 30 active members.  We welcome new recruits or people visiting from out-of-town who just want to meet up with a friendly group to run with.

Itasca Lions

In 1917, Melvin Jones, a Chicago business leader, told members of his local business club they should reach beyond business issues and address the betterment of their communities and the world. Jones' group, the Business Circle of Chicago, agreed.  After contacting similar groups around the United States, an organizational meeting was held on June 7, 1917, in Chicago, Illinois, USA. The new group took the name of one of the invited groups, the "Association of Lions Clubs. Within three years, Lions became an international organization.

Sweet Baby Ray's

It all started back in 1985 when a local Chicago boy named Chef Larry perfected his family’s recipe for a sweet and tangy BBQ sauce and entered it into the country’s largest rib cook-off, the Mike Royko Rib-off. Chef Larry called his sauce Sweet Baby Ray’s after his little brother David, who got the nickname shootin’ hoops on the west side of Chicago. On the day of the rib-off, Sweet Baby Ray’s beat nearly 700 entrants — an amazing feat for an unknown. The rest, as they say, is history.
