The Itasca Oktoberfast 5K course is USATF certified (certification number #IL11072JW).
Starting on West Grove Street, after around 0.2 miles the course turns left outside the Springbrook Nature Center and onto Forest Avenue.
The course gets your blood pumping with two hills just after the start! As we reach the top of the second hill, the course crosses West Bloomingdale Road and onto Lombard Road where it heads straight before making two sharp lefts onto South Oak Street
Another 0.2 miles and the course turns right onto West Washington Street where we cross the one mile marker before turning right onto South Maple Avenue. A short blast along this road is followed by another sharp left onto West George Street where the course continues straight for around three-fourths of a mile.
The second-mile marker is reached on East George Street before the course swings left onto Broker Avenue as the course begins the loop back towards the finish line. A left onto East Washington Street follows with a short jog on Princeton Avenue, before turning right onto South Walnut Street where we reach the third mile.
Finally, the course crosses back over West Bloomingdale Road, and heads for the fast downhill sprint to the finish line.
Boom! That's it. The Itasca Runners Club Oktoberfast 5K is done for another year. Now it's time to reflect, stretch, and enjoy some beer and brats!
