Burning Questions Answered Here
Our Help Center
We know what you really wanna know about Itasca Oktoberfast 5K. That’s why we’ve built such an epic website and compiled a list of all the frequently questions we usually get asked regarding our race. If you still haven’t found the answers you’re looking for, feel free to contact us and we’ll be happy to answer your questions.
Can I run with my dog?
No. We are unable to accommodate dogs - or any pets - on the course. Your favorite doggy can, however, be at the finish line - leashed with someone - to see you finish in style!
Can I run with a stroller?
Yes. Running with a stroller is permitted on the Itasca Oktoberfast 5K course. To alleviate safety concerns, stroller-runners are required to line up at the rear of the field to avoid the main pack of runners. During the race, if you catch slower runners, then you are allowed to pass but please do not run anybody over!
Where can I park?
There is ample street parking available in the area adjacent to the start line, however, some roads will be closed to accommodate the race. Alternatively, the Metra parking lot is free and available within a short walking distance from the start line. The lot is located on Irving Park Road between Walnut Street and Willow Street (Map). The address of the parking lot is 309 W Irving Park Rd, Itasca, IL 60143
Is there an inclement weather policy?
Yes. We take the safety of our runners very seriously and make this our top priority. In the event of inclement weather which risks our ability to operate the race safely, the event may be postponed until it is safe to commence, or even canceled altogether. Lightning poses the greatest danger and the race will not commence while there is any lightning in the area. Updates regarding delays and cancellations will be posted on the race website, Facebook page, and Twitter feed.
What time does the race start?
The race starts at 9am, rain or shine. It's chip-timed, so even if you're a few minutes late, you'll still receive your individual time once you cross the finish line. You can learn more about our race schedule on our Info page.
Is the course certified?
Yes. The Itasca Oktoberfast 5K course is USATF certified (certification number #IL22007WR).
What's the typical race-day weather?
The weather in September can be variable - in 2017 it was a hot, sunny morning, with temperatures in the mid-90s. In 2014, when the race was held later in the year in early October, the race was run in cooler temperatures of 34F with minor snow flurries. Our advice is to keep an eye on the local weather forecast and prepare accordingly.
Can I have a refund on my fees?
No. The Itasca Oktoberfast operates under a no refunds policy, therefore the Itasca Running Club is unable to provide refunds regardless of the circumstances including any race cancellation that is related to COVID-19. This policy also includes race cancellations for inclement weather or for other potential reasons. The no refunds policy is one of the terms that a runner must accept as part of the race registration process and is included within the race waiver.
Can I bike or skate instead?
No. All bicycles, in-line skates, roller-skates, ATVs, or any other type of vehicle are prohibited from participating in the Itasca Oktoberfast 5K where we take the safety of our participants and spectators seriously.
Is the Itasca Runners Club a non-profit organization?
Yes. The Itasca Runners Club is a non-profit organization and a member of Road Runners of America, a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization.
